I would never forget one of the mid-term examinations when I was in middle school, which had a huge impact in my rest of life. When I was a pupil, I did pretty well in learning, and I was usually ranked in the top of my class in academic learning. Therefore, I was so proud of myself that I looked down on my classmates. However, when I was in middle school, I was never ranked in the top five among my classmates in academic learning, but I still thought it was nothing until the result of a mid-term examination came out. In that mid-term, I suddenly fell from the middle to the last but one in my class academic ranking, which shocked my teachers and parents. Thus my mother came to my school and took me to visit my adviser and teachers immediately, even though she hadn’t had lunch yet, in the next day after she knew the result. She talked a lot with my teachers, and they analyzed my faults and shortages for me and told me what I should do to improve the situation that I had faced. After my mother coming back home, I thought a lot about what they had said and what I had done. Then I realized that I should always stay modest no matter how successful I was, because there was always someone that was more successful than me. With my mindset changed, I studied harder and harder. Finally, I got back to the top in the academic ranking of my class when I was in senior high school, and I was admitted to one of the best universities in China after my graduation. It was the failure that helped me correct my outlook. I will remind myself to be modest every time when I get an achievement.
