The Search for My Dad
As Ivy grew up, the person within her was often questioned, who is this person? She was in every way different when it came to her brothers and sisters. She was mistreated for many reasons but never understood why. As time went by, the question still remained, who is this person? Why does one look so different from their brothers and sisters? Most of all, why is she being treated so differently?
Growing up she wanted to be loved and cared for. In addition, she wanted a relationship with her mom. Never did she receive that so she started asking, “Who is dad and where is he?” You were told he was in Italy and a protective order was placed on him and that’s why you never knew who he was. As time went by, the order was lifted off of him and court papers were served.
After the papers were served Ivy’s mom, Karen, was issued an arraignment date to get DNA testing done. The day of the testing, she was very nervous and jittery. A lady from the forensic staff came from the back wearing a black collared shirt and khaki dickie pants. Soon after, she introduced herself as she pulled out two big cotton swabs. Ivy asked, “What are those for?” and the forensic staff said, “It is for the both of you to swab your mouth for testing at the lab.”
Once the testing was complete Karen was verbally given a court date.Ivy heard a knock at the door and hesitated to get off the couch. The second was much louder and had gotten her attention, Ivy she got up and looked out the window and saw the Sheriff, a man with a dark brown shirt, light brown tie and gold stars on his shirt, walking off. He had on light brown pants with a belt to hold all his tools and black shoes. Ivy was ecstatic and ran upstairs as fast as she could to give the mail to her mom. When Karen, grabbed the bag she had a disgusted look on her face. Ivy was too young to understand whether the look meant hurt, shame, bitterness, or sadness, so Ivy went back downstairs.
