Tyler Barsalow Marijuana
In the country of the United States the war on drugs has been going on for years, as politicians and regular citizens push to keep Marijuana illegal in the U.S. In my opinion I believe that Marijuana in the United States should be legalized because it would help our country raise money and not be in debt anymore, and it would also get rid of the majority of crimes that happen here and in the world.
Our country today is $7,782,816,546,352 in debt, due to the fact that we owe many countries a lot of money, one of the reasons I believe we should legalize marijuana is because if our country were to tax it and put it in the shelves of a grocery store like they would anything else our country would be making a ton of money from it. California has already started this revolution, California's biggest cash crop is now marijuana, if the United States were to legalize it, marijuana could become the biggest cash crop in the world and people from everywhere in the world would either be buying online or buying in a store marijuana and the money from that would keep coming in year after year. Selling marijuana is a big offense, if it were legal the government would not have to worry about spending billions of dollars trying to keep the war on drugs under their belt. With marijuana legalized the government would also be spending less money putting marijuana sellers and users in to jail and keeping them there. If the United States were to tax marijuana the same as they taxed cigarettes and alcohol they would be making an extra 6.2 billion dollars a year.
My other reason as to why marijuana should be legal is because it would get rid of the majority of crimes that not only happen in the United States but other countries where drug wars happen every day such as Mexico. People everywhere have seen or no someone who has been in trouble with the law because of marijuana, maybe because of a simple fact they got caught with a bag of it or because they did something to someone because they did not get paid after selling it. With marijuana legal there would be no problem of that, violence would go down ten fold, because if it were legal there would be no more shooting people over it and people wouldn’t have to keep dying over a plant if they can now go buy it at their local Grand Union. Every year since marijuana has been illegal people have been dying either trying to buy it or sell it, if it were to be legal the moms and dads of the world would be able to sleep more easily now knowing that their son will come home safe and not have to worry about getting shot by a marijuana dealer.
