United we stand, divided we fall which is a simple phrase we can quote with national unity. National unity briefly means unity in diversity. It means unifying all the forces in the country so as to give the idea of one nation. National unity cannot be built by brick ans mortar, it cannot be built by chisel. It has to grow silently in the minds and hearts of men. It can be deduced that integration among Malaysians are crucial factors that contribute to the nation’s success. This unity has been a main concern of the Malaysian government from pre-independence day to the present. We as Malaysians as a whole must take the initiative in promoting national unity through their daily actions and choices.

The main initiative we Malaysians can take to promote national unity is by sports. Sports activities can promote education, health, development and peace as a tool to foster cooperation. In the latest event of The Malaysians United Run 2015, held in conjuction with with Institut Onn Jaafar's first anniversary, is a classic example where 17,620 people from all walks of life took our part under the theme. "Let's Light up Our Children's Future". The participants were mostly students from institutions of higher learning. The students aimed to foster closer ties and to show respect and tolerance among fellow Malaysians. Where politics has failed, sports haven on countless occasions succeded in not only bringing development, but also peace and national cohesion. As the late Nelson Mandela said 'sports has the power to change the world, the power to inspire, the power to unite people in a way that little else does.

The education system is one way through which national unity can be strengthened The school is the best place for students to mingle as they spend at least half the day in school.
