Annotation:

The author presents a framework for planned change processes that are transformational in nature. She shows how the framework offers a clear alternative to traditional approaches in organization development which are generally appropriate to situations where lesser scale or incremental adjustments are required. The process is structured around three core issues in organizational change management. Which are first, the nature of organizations’ and what constitutes an improvement to them, secondly, what is the appropriate strategies for levering change and finally, the change agent roles. The author places important emphasis on attitudes, beliefs and values as the key change levers in an organizational transformation. The article finishes with a discussion of processes supportive of successful transformation change.

Personal Reflection:

During my time of employment with the Home Depot, I experience the change Robert Nardelli tried to implement 2,000 stores and get control of them by pointing the new organization in a new direction. Home Depot was a company with entrepreneurial spirit which offered free will and self-motivation for all associates. This was the foundation of the company and how it became the giant in the Home improvement industry. Nardelli tried to change the culture of the Home Depot without the proper assessment of the organization, thus having some negative effect as a result. Having a culture of entrepreneurship spirit permits for a small percentage of failure due to creative thinking and taking proper risk to increase profits and customer service for the consumers and associates.
