Constant training is one way correctional systems can apply throughout to achieve high levels professionalism. The significant part of their responsibilities is to link behaviours and perception. Constant training combines various applications as used in correctional procedures to further impart and develop the skills of prison workers. The training includes report writing, use of forces, key controls, suicide prevention, communication skills, cultural diversity, first aid and emergency plans among others (Lobaccaro, 2012). Through regular training, the correctional employees will learn to be cautious and handle public perceptions efficiently, treat inmates with more respect, observe law restrictions, take pride in their profession and manage inmate conflicts better.

Secondly, the correction system can set assurance standards to measure and control the effectiveness of the correctional staff performance towards professionalism. Making it mandatory for correctional employees to follow the established standards, procedures, facility policies and code ethics will ensure delivery of uncompromised services in law enforcement (Lobaccaro, 2012). The assurance standards address all the major decisions, concerns, activities and actions that take place on the daily basis within the facility. Adhering to the institution’s procedures and policies is proven element in assuring not only work quality but upholding high levels of professionalism. Measuring performance guides on a way forward to the correctional system as well as highlights situations not previously covered that demanded staff discretion.

Correctional Facilities Circumvent the Cruel and Unusual Punishment

 The majority of correctional facilities have upheld this standard owing to relatively fewer cases challenging the confinement conditions. For instance, most of the correctional facilities have sufficient supplies of essential personal effects, hygienically safe holding spaces, unsanitary food preparation for everyone, and ensured access to life-saving medication and freedom to physical exercises in the open. Also, there have been reforms over the past few years concerning the cruel use of solitary confinements. Mississippi, Maine, Colorado, New York and Washington State’s made changes to their isolation rules to make them more flexible. The Canadian government is tackling the inhumane situation of overcrowded prisons (Schmalleger, 2012). More so, locals, inmates, and other advocates have the right to appeal or take to court any incident of inhuman treatment. This privilege restricts correctional systems from violating the cruel and unusual punishment standard under the Eighth Amendment.
