2. How long have you known this person? | 10 years.
3. Why did you choose this person to interview?
Questions for your Interview Subject | 4. How long have you been in this field? | Four years. |
5. What types of activities do you do in a typical day? | A typical day for me is patient documentation, medication adminitrazation, call in orders, help transport patients attend to all patient needs regarding, iv, catheters.
6. What parts of your job do you like best? What is most rewarding? | The most rewarding part of my job is getting to know patients on a personal level and seeing patients get better and meet their goals that are in their patient care plan.
7. What are your least favorite parts of your job? What is most challenging? | “The least favorite part of my job is not being able to help patients fully heal, and dealing with very aggressive family members who do not understand that I am doing my very best to help their family member
8. What kind of person would really do well in your type of job? What kind of person would fail in your job? | “I’ve worked with many different people who all have personality types, and we were all great nurses so I do not think any particular person would do better or worse. A person who would do really well is someone with a ton of patience, can a handle fast past environment, some with good communication skills and someone who is passionate. A person who does not like being on their feet for an extended period of time would not do well physically as a nurse. A person who is not empathic would fail at being a nurse since we have to empathize with not only our patients but our patients family members at all. Lastly if you don’t like people or working with people you would fail terribly at being a nurse since your surrounded by people non-stop.”
9. Are there things that someone could do to prepare for a job in your field? What are they? | “Nursing school and clinically prepare you with skills and knowledge you need to be a nurse but I learned that nothing prepared me for the emotional toll that nursing put on me. You have to mentally prepare yourself to see people sick and die. You also have to prepare yourself with being away from your family for long periods of time and you should expect that you will have to work on the holidays when you are just starting your job.”
10. Do you tend to work alone or do you tend to work with lots of people? Do you manage people? | “ I work with a lot of people all the time. I work with other nurses, doctors, and specialists daily. But I also work with many patients since I work in the Emergency Room people are constantly coming and going.”
11. How did you get your current job? | “ I got my current job by previously working at a nursing home. I found that when I was applying for jobs in hospitals that they only wanted to hire nurses with two or more years of experience. So after working at my previous job at the nursing home for three years I started to apply at hospitals. I was able to provide the hospitals with references, and job experience which is why I believe I was able to get a job in the Emergency Department at one of the known hospitals in Philadelphia.”
12. What advice do you have for me as I begin my college career and am thinking about a possible career? | “My advice for you as you continue college and start thinking about possible careers would be do something you enjoy. If you don’t know what you would enjoy doing shadow different people in different fields. When people say they want to study a certain major because the jobs associated with that major make a lot of money, I think that is a mistake. The major you pick will set you up for jobs associated with it, and if you find out that you don’t like any jobs you will have to basically deal with it or go back to school one day. Ultimately, do what you think you will love and not get bored of for the rest of your life.” |
