Profit Is Motivation

Most people can agree that the world revolves around money. Everyone wants profit. The reason behind every war is usually to win some form of money or land. It has been rooted into our ancestors and what makes a successful life even today. All throughout history, most of every big historical event can be traced back to the want and pursuit of profit. Many points in history show this. Spanish conquers, religious reformers, European settlements, and many others show that humans are motivated by profit.
In the early 1500's, Spanish conquers were beginning to explore the new world in search of territories to gain. One of them was Hernando Cortes who landed on the shores of Mexico in 1519. All of the land was colonized in the Caribbean so the Spanish wanted to explore the American mainland. Cortes and his followers, conquistadors, wanted to claim new lands for Spain. They heard that there were a lot of valuable objects in America. This is one of the reasons why Cortes wanted so badly to explore America. He was motivated by that to continue with his long and difficult journey despite all risks. Hernando Cortes even convinced one of the Aztec rulers, Montezuma, that he was a God just to get the gold he had. He was even so selfish and determined to receive riches that he was willing to use violence and murder against the Aztec people. This shows how desperate people can be.
Another group of people in history that show how humans are motivated by profit are religious reformers. Most would think that being a church; their main concern wouldn't be profit. For many, it was. Although some Catholic priests demanded money from the people, many viewed it as a different kind of profit. Profit can mean many things. Even just being able to recruit a non-Christian member of their society into the Catholic Church could be seen as profit. That was the central motivation in the church at the time.
