The Walking Man II by Alberto Giacometti, Swiss (1901-1966)
In this piece of art the sculptor Giacometti captivated my attention on the particulate way he made this sculpture. The reason the author got my attention on this piece because you rarely see a sculpture like that of a man, so skinny and tall with overly long and thin arms and legs and an oval shaped bald head, with gigantic feet to sustain such a fragile body.
In my opinion a man’s body figured must be strong and robust, with muscular legs and arms as thick and strong as a tree log (BIG), with a round/squared shaped head with big feet to carry such a strong, muscular body. Again, that is my personal opinion on how the sculpture of a man should be.
Also, in this piece the author named his sculptured “The Walking Man II” which intrigues my mind to think that he actually built a first one. Also, I believe that in order to distinguish the body of a man from a woman at least in a sculpture; its reproductive system should have been added to this sculpture.
However, as I looked into the moldings of the face of this sculpture; it seems like the face of a man. The reason I say this is because the density on the look of the sculpture, the firmly structure of the smile that in my opinion says I am moving ahead and for that I smile. This image made me realize that no matter what position you’re on keep moving forward with a smile on your face.
In conclusion and I must add to this paper that I have not seen this sculpture in person everything I am writing about it is merely through an image from a computer. Also, the way I see the sculpture is non criticizing that is the way I see it. There is one thing I do take from this is that no matter what quest life puts you through keep walking with a smile on your face.
