U.S. Constitutional Amendment Proposal

Now that we have discussed the pros of the “Voters Recall Law”, let us now move on to the cons of the law that will open up Pandora’s Box. The whole recall law and procedure will put additional weight on the shoulders of the shoulders of the voters; meaning longer ballots, more frequent elections because so many elected officials may not even last two to three months. With the recall system in place elected officials may overly restrained due to the fact if they make one mistake or have a misunderstanding they will be voted out of office. Elected officials may also be unwilling to support action in public interest for fear of recall; our elected officials should not be sitting on pins and needles afraid to make decisions. If our elected officials are not comfortable in their position they will be always looking over their shoulders and trying to please everyone instead of making the appropriate decisions for our respective states and the entire United States of America.

There are also the issues of expenses of additional recall election, which will not be vindicated; mainly when impeachment or the next election is available for the removal of an elected official. Many individuals would dispute the fact that recall can lead to an overload of democracy, that the threat of a recall election could decrease the independence of elected officials, that it could chip away at the principle of electing good officials and giving them a chance to govern until the next election, and that it can lead to abuses by well-financed special interest groups.
