Introduction
Tackling the running of a Little League program can sound relatively easy at first but if you are to ever accept this challenge you will discover that it brings several tasks and challenges many would never even imagine. As we develop an appropriate team to ensure a successful season, we will explore the topics of Team Design, Team Performance and Productivity Evaluation, Threats to Team Performance, Compensation and Performance Appraisal Strategies and Team Communication Strategies.
Team Design
It will take a strong team of dedicated volunteers to appropriately staff the team. We feel that the outlined structure, consisting of four committees, three directors, and a league secretary/treasurer will help ensure a successful season.
Fundraising/Sponsorship Committee
We need to have at least three people volunteer for the Fundraising/Sponsorship Committee. One of these individuals should be the head of the committee. This committee is responsible for organizing two fundraising events a year. The committee is responsible for running the fundraiser from start to finish and finding volunteers to help. All Fundraising ideas need to be presented and approved by the Little League board before they can be started. The committee is also responsible for gathering sponsorships for each team. By March 15th each year the board will let the committee know how many sponsorships will be needed. It will be the responsibility of the committee to either send out letters or visit businesses to obtain sponsorships. It is important to visit the prior sponsors first and then obtain new ones if needed. Please work with the photographer to obtain pictures of each team. Once you receive pictures please send out a hand written thank you note to all sponsors along with a picture of their team.
Umpire Committee
We need to have at least two people volunteer for the Umpire Committee. One of these individuals should be the head of the committee. This committee is responsible for finding, training, scheduling, finding replacements if needed, monitoring the umpires, getting the background form filled out and delivering the form to the Secretary/Treasurer so that the check can be completed. This committee should also log all games that are umped so that the umpires can be paid out appropriately at the end of the season.
Field Committee
We need to have at least six people volunteer for the Field Committee. One of these individuals should be the head of the committee. This committee is responsible for preparing the field at the beginning of the season, preparing a plan for how the field will be prepared during the season and for preparing the field at the end of the season. This includes ensuring the fields are dragged and chalked appropriately and
