The Olympic Village: The Heart of the Games in Doha
The athletes experience is of extreme importance to Doha 2020. The Olympic Village will be situated on the expensive campus of Qatar University, putting the Game Center within a 15 km radius of 92% of all competition and non-competition venues.
The university campus will additionally have Media Village and Main Media Center (MMC). These play an important role in plans of Doha 2020’s Games concept. These housing include readily affordable accommodation.
The first phase of Media Village will be completed by end of 2014. And by the completion of Second phase in 2019, there will be 2400 rooms available. The accommodation will have multiple room apartments and villas and also hostel rooms (each with private bathrooms).
The village will have its own 11,000m shopping Centre. The entire complex will cover total area of 543,000m. It will also have features like:
- High speed broadband internet connections
- Laundry services
- 24 hour dining options, including mix of restaurants and cafes
- Recreational facilities
- On-site shopping
- A transport Mall
Qatar University has confirmed through a letter of support for the development of village, as they own the land.
International Standards Rated Doha Hotels
The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) uses internationally recognized star rating system to evaluate the hotels and apartment hotels. Doha’s increasing importance as a regional and non regional hub for sports, education, communications, commerce and exhibition has led to growth of city’s business accommodation and tourism industry. In next five years, the nation will invest 17 billion USD in construction of hotels, resorts and other leisure facilities.
Consequently, there will be significant increase in hotel rooms to reach a total of 29,000 by end of 2012. Doha 2020 planned an inventory of 60,000 rooms, both existing and planned, for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Accommodation will be from low cost serviced apartments to luxurious resort hotels. More than 50,000 will be within the 15 km of majority of Game Venues.
The new Doha Bay Crossing, planned to open by 2019, will provide direct and fast link from New Doha International Airport to main hotel area.

Doha’s future is based on an extensive existing and planned transport infrastructure. The existing road network in Doha is structured around several interconnecting multiple-lane ring roads (from several six-to- ten lane expressways. The ring roads link the five expressways and the airport, with grade-separated intersections to improve traffic flow. All stadiums would be aligned with the country’s five expressways and each is within a short walk of metro stops, on shaded and cooled pathways, and separate roads for shuttles.
