Atheists believe that the universe is a natural place; there is no God, or supernatural beings. They feel that everything in the universe is matter or some type of energy. Atheists also believe that matter is locked in relationships that are based on cause and effect. Knowledge

Atheists believe that knowledge is acquired through human feelings and desire as well as what is experienced through the senses. (Cosgrove, 2006)

Human nature Atheists believe that they have no predetermined nature or essence that controls what they are, what they do, or what is valuable for them. “Human beings have self-consciousness and self-determination by an evolutionary accident, and thus human beings can have some significance and value beyond unconscious matter” (Cosgrove, 2006, p. 109) Human nature is chosen through life choices.

Human problems Atheists believe that not coming to terms with being human and the human condition is the problem. These problems may be biological, psychological, or cultural in nature. (Cosgrove, 2006)
