Discuss the phrase ‘Australia in Asia' with reference to the essential readings and lectures in the first four weeks.

Influence of Asia on Australia

Asia has become a significant influential body that has shaped Australia's perception through defining the identity of "Asia" and "Asian's" and "Australia" and "Australian's", the multiculturalism of Australia, the expanding economic growth of Asia and its geography, the power changer over in the Asian century, citizenship and migration and the equality in Australia through policy's. The implications of these points directly impacts what "Australia in Asia" is comprised of.

Idealogical characteristics of physical, cultural, religious and ethnicity traits collate the image that is meant to "identify" Asian's and Australian's, however the multiculturalism of Australia has integrated concepts of populations, this in turn has broaden what identifies people to be "Asian" or "Australian" proving that to classify a person it is to be based upon the values and laws that the person upholds. " We Australians tend to believe that we see the world as it really is, and not through the veil of culture" (Milner, 1996, pg36). This reflects how Australia's multicultural background has conflicted what displays the identity of a person and what actually creates the identity.

The expanding economic growth in Asia and the geographical location of extensive landmass known as Asia neighbours Australia, which has given Australia much prosperity through imports and exports between the two continents. "China to fulfil its potential as the economic powerhouse of the region and the locomotive of Australia's prosperity"(White, 2011, pg90). This displays how important Asia's successful economy is needed for Australia to be financially stable.
