Questions:

How does Goodwill incorporate the P-O-L-C framework?

Why do you think Goodwill believes it necessary to continually innovate?

The first function of the P-O-L-C framework is planning. Planning consists of many steps and different ways to plan. The first step of planning is environmental scanning. Goodwill has economic impact mostly by creating jobs. Creating jobs covers the basics of environmental scanning which includes economic condition, competitors, and customers. According the Goodwill Industries homepage at www.goodwill.org, as of Sunday, November 02, 2014, Goodwill has 218,682 people so far in 2014.

Creating jobs is also the basis for strategic planning. The basic reason for Goodwill’s existence is for people to donate things to be sold in their stores in order to create jobs. Centered on Goodwill’s home page (www.goodwill.org) is “Donate Stuff. Create Jobs” with links for “Donate Stuff”, “Find Jobs”, “Advocate”, and “Create Jobs”. Goodwill’s recent tactical planning includes being part of social media. There is a presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and Google Plus.  Goodwill’s operational planning includes the creation of newsletters and latest updates to help support its strategic and tactical planning.

The “O” in the P-O-L-C framework is for organizing. According to their “About Us” page from the www.goodwill.org website,  Goodwill’s organization is “Goodwill’s network of 165 independent, community-based Goodwills in the United States and Canada offers customized training and services for individuals who want to find a job, pursue a credential or degree, and strengthen their finances.” The “L” is for leading. Examples of Goodwill’s leadership includes a leadership role in electronics recycling and awards such as the Goodwill Family Strengthening Center of Excellence Award. “C” is for controlling. Goodwill has introduced their results and revenue sources online so that everyone is aware of their performance standards and actual performance.
