Introduction
Films are the most important and influential means of entertainment, information and education worldwide. Films narrate stories to masses in order to entertain, educate or inform people. There are many kinds of films, examples include: feature films, animated films, documentary films, educational films, or television films.
Lollywood, Pakistan‟s film industry, is an unofficial nickname used for the Pakistani film industry based in the city of Lahore (wikipedia, 2014). The word "Lollywood" was first coined in the summer of 1989 in the magazine called Glamour which was published from Karachi by a gossip columnist, Saleem Nasir, in line with the Bombay film industry's nickname Bollywood (wikipedia, 2014).
Overview of Important events of Pakistan Film
Industry
After independence in 1947, Pakistan had 3 main film making centre‟s Karachi, Lahore and Dhaka. Majority of the Pakistani films produced are in Urdu language but there are also films in English, and other regional languages like Punjabi, Sindhi, balochi etc. During Partition, most of the filmmakers preferred to go to Pakistan as they felt that there will an advantage of citizenship which would help them to make good films but Pakistan being a new country faced problems of shortage of electricity, funds and filming equipment for the production of films. Madame Noor Jehan, Mehboob Khan, Shaukat Hussain are some famous personalities from film industry who came to Pakistan.
