Appreciate What You Have
…Time is moving slower than ever, bright lights almost blinding…
“Ma’am are you okay? You blacked out for a second there.” “Can you tell me your name?” Someone is shaking my body but I cannot see who it is; I cannot tell what’s going on. I am getting annoyed because I cannot move my neck or say anything to make them stop. This has to be a terrible dream.
It all started on a hot summer day, late August to be exact. My mom said it was okay for my friends to spend the night so all the teens in the house were hanging out together in the theatre room. We were laughing and playing around and having fun, no one has a care in the world at the time… It gets to be really late, around 1 or 2 am, and my Uncle comes upstairs and asks us all if we want to go out with him. Of course we all said yes, because who doesn’t want to walk around Wal-Mart in their PJs and have fun with their friends? We all get in the car, and we were playing on the iPads and listening to music. All of the sudden, everything starts to move in slow motion.
I look up and I’m blinded by bright lights and then the car flipped over. Everyone is screaming and trying to hold on, my music seems louder than ever and I can’t think of anything but if my mom would ever get to see me again. My head hits the window and everything goes black.
I wake up a few hours later in the hospital and I see my mother and my sisters waiting for me to wake up. My left wrist and right foot are broken, and my face is bruised from where my head hit the window. The pain doesn’t even bother me because all I can think about is being able to hug my mom and tell her how much I love her. I couldn’t believe any of this had just happened to me, but I was just so happy to be alive. Soon a few more of my family members come in from the waiting room. I give everyone a hug and start telling them what happened
