What is LRE? Least Restricted Environment, or LRE, Least Restricted Environment is not a place. It is instead a plan or a program for your child’s education. It is a principal that guides how and where your child will receive their education. Least Restricted Environment means that your child should spend as much time as possible with students who do not have a disability. Who determines the LRE?The IEP team evaluates the need for LRE for students during their IEP meeting. There needs to be data collected and addressed with fidelity to determine the appropriate environment. How often is the LRE evaluated? LRE should be evaluated during the annual review and any other time the team feels it is necessary. How much involvement do the parents of a student have in determining the LRE? Parents will receive an invitation to the meeting to determine the LRE for their child.If they do not agree with the placement that the team decides on and the team along with the arents can not come to an agreement the parents may request a Du process hearing. | LRELeast Restrictive Environment | |||

In general education class, your child will spend the whole day in a general education class. Your child will reeive support and services such as a utor, paraprofessional, assitive technology, accommodations, modifications or related services. If your child is mainstreamed / inclusion classroom, your child will spend a portion of the day in a generale ducation class. Your child will be pulled out of the classroom for related servicecs. Hey will also have special education instruction n small group or individualized one on one services. | As a member of the IEP team, you as the parent, will be involved in figuring out your child’s Least Restricted Environment. You may advocate for your child during the process. If your child needs specialized program outside of your school it may be private school, residential programs or hospital programs. | |||
