DECRIPTION/SUMMARY
As we can recall from the 2009 animation movie entitled “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs” wherein Flint Lockwood, a wannabe-scientist, invents the "Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator" (FLDSMDFR for short). It is a machine that transforms water into food. His invention continually generated food which later on became a problem because he was not able to stop the machine from doing so. This dilemma led Flint to start his epic battle to save the world.
The movie inspired real-life scientists to invent a machine that resembled the FLDSMDFR. Experts have set their insights on reforming home cooking with unveiling the first food printer. Over the years, they have been working on bringing 3D food printing into reality. The first few steps were the developments of NASA’s 3D pizza-printing prototype. But, the applications were limitless.
Even independent companies have managed to develop 3D food printers for the home kitchen. This is where the Foodini comes to the picture. It is an example of a kitchen appliance that can print out food meals. The makers say the machine shows a fantastic combination of ‘technology, food, art and design’ though the technology part still has limitations. The artsy side of it is seen in the designs that the device can produce. It can make something out of food pastes into complex shapes and intricate designs that almost seem like magic. The downside of it is that the ingredients must be previously cooked and pounded into mush.
Making this transformation possible, 3D food printing has created an impact on our way of understanding our food in variety of aspects. If it were not for the brilliant minds of our scientists, such comprehension would have ceased to exist.
