6. Though the financial backing of medical research may give the perception of a conflict of interest, it is not to be assumed that this is a confounding factor. Sponsorship in a study should be considered a confounding factor is if there is bias in any part of the process that will make the results of the study favorable for the drug company’s agenda. A way to mitigate sponsorship becoming a confounding factor is by randomly assigning test subjects to treatment and control groups.
13. Driver/sales worker and refuse recyclable material collectors may seem to be the most and least dangerous jobs respectively. This is because these are the two jobs with the most and least total deaths. What can be misleading about this is that this chart doesn’t take into account that there are a larger number of drivers on the road than any other group of workers. When you adjust for the data for “deaths per 1000 workers” you will see that fishers and loggers have the most dangerous jobs and drivers have the 3rd safest job on the list. While refuse and recyclable material collectors do not have the most dangerous job, they have moved up from the safest job to the 5th most dangerous job when deaths per 1000 workers is shown.
Occupation | Total Deaths | Total Employed | Deaths per 1000 Workers |
