Basic Message of Koran
- There is but one God (Allah)
- The last prophet was Muhammed
- Koran is “Holy Book” and inclusive of social and political theory
- Faithful who follow word and law of Koran are “guaranteed a place in eternal paradise that contains sensual delights”
Five Pillars of Faith
- Declaration of creed “There is no God but Allah and Muhammed is his prophet”
- Recite prayers 5 times a day
- Charity to the poor
- Ramadan – fast from dawn to sunset. Ramadan is sacred month and the month that Muhammed received his calling. Lunar calendar
- Pilgrimage to Mecca (if possible) to the place of Muhammed’s birth. Also site of Kaaba and sacred black stone.
