I met with Louise Robert, my coach, personally. We had an open discussion that includes my background, my experience at W&M and what I am looking for after my MBA. After showing her my paper and discuss it, I asked her to send me a detailed feedback. She informed me being conscientiousness is positive as it allows me to be mindful and thorough about the projects I work on. On the other hand being too conscientious downsides the inability to let go, to micromanage, to get mired in too many details to the detriment of more important aspects of a project. She confirmed that emotional balance is a strong asset in the workplace; however I should emphasize on positive emotion which can be highly motivating for me, team and customers. Lastly I was worried about lacking empathy, she told me it is not my job to be everyone’s best friend, though some empathy is required to be a successful leader by checking in with team members, subordinates on regular basis. We agreed that a mature company with a well-defined internal structure would be a good match for me. She decided to challenge me by thinking about conscientiousness at a strategic level, as someone who may one day focus on bringing structure to a start-up or entrepreneurial company or defining and developing new processes/procedures. I felt very motivated after the meeting as we agreed to work on my empathy during our meetings, and identify opportunities to stretch my empathy muscle.
