Looking at the Indian drug retail store scenario, most of the sores in the organized sector are existing in the Neighbourhood format which means that they are usually located in populated areas mostly in the main markets. The average store size (considering all formats together) is very small compared to that of Walgreens in the US. When opening stores in India, they have to consider the fact that people in India will not be willing to go long distances just to buy medicines as may be the case in the US. Even the store size is an issue here as possibility of such large space being available is low.
As far as the location is concerned there are several factors that Walgreens takes into account, such as major intersections, traffic patter
patterns, demographics and locations near hospitals.
