The two jobs that I chose was a member of management (supervisor) and a human resource rep. These two positions were chosen because they interact with a majority of the work force and have such a huge impact on the way the jobs are completed. In this essay the reader will learn the general functions of the performance management system , as well as two job evaluation methods for each position, a compensation plan for each, and the importance of providing a benefits plan for the employees.
The functions of performance management systems are to improve productivity. Productivity is the measure of output increase over the amount of input. The evaluation is the to make sure that the employees understand the components of a particular task and that they are being performed correctly in a designated time frame. Feed back and motivation is key when relaying information to the employees. The best performers earn a larger raise while others may receive instructions for improvement. Employee growth is another function of performance management , it gives employees the opportunity to develop strong skills in different areas. Performance evaluations are away to ensure each employee is receiving the correct amount of training to be successful in certain areas. Performance goals will be set for the team on an individual basis.
Job evaluation methods differ from position to position. One method that may be used is ranking. Supervisors may be ranked against each other based on how well there respective departments. The advantages are that its simple and effective. The disadvantages are that the rank judgements are subjective to the jobs that the individual does. Job classification method uses classes or groups to provide more customization in evaluation. For the human resource rep the evaluation method factor comparison would be ideal. Factor comparison is more scientific and complex than the rest of the methods because each job is ranked to a specific set of factors such as physical , and mental effort or responsibility. The advantage of this method is that it produces a more accurate evaluation.
