Policy Analysis II

The best predictor for past behavior is one's future behavior. The way to stop known offender's from continuing criminal behavior is by taking the necessary steps to prevent crime. Crime prevention is an effort to redirect those individuals who are not in a life of crime. As an intervention for reducing crime through the courts and corrections and for policy purposes, these interventions can be broke down into six categories. These six categories are Incapacitation, Deterrence, Rehabilitation, Community Restraints, Structure, Discipline, and Challenge, and Combining Rehabilitation and Restraint. This paper will explain how to conduct a secondary research on the policies of the courts. There will also be discussion on how the policies put into place affect the operation and decision-making process of police and corrections.

Summary of Policies

The criminal justice system has to deal with many policies every day. There is not anything more important than the decision-making process of the court system, and the decision of the use of deadly force. The use of force often occurs a law enforcement officer thinks that the only way to get a suspect to stop, the officer will use the use of force to get him or her to stop what he or she is doing wrong. If the suspect will not stop with the use of force and is causing the officer harm the officer will use the use of deadly force. Deadly force is a rough decision to make by a law enforcement officer, and it is most difficult part of the criminal justice system. Plus the use of deadly force it is hard for the court system to make their decision.

Policies affect decision in Corrections

The use of deadly force policy is used in the United States correctional facilities. Deadly force in the correctional facility, it is very important because it is the place for convicted criminals to be held and live (Barnhart, 2009). Policies in the correctional facilities on the use of deadly force are set in place to be used if need be. The policy information describes and explains the information to help prevent anyone from using the use of deadly force. If it is used it may be severe and could cause an inmate to be seriously injured or even killed. There are many assaults and murders that happen every day in the United States and is why these policies are put into place to help stop the deadly actions, and are to help protect lives. When a life is taken, it should not be taken lightly, but with an understanding and a sense of duty (Barnhart,2009).
