Roman law influenced legal system of world. Now, each country in the world has its own legal system. Legal systems are as many as countries in the world but mainly there are three types of legal systems: Civil law system, Common law system and Religious (Theoretical) law system. Each legal system has its advantages and disadvantages.
Common law is the unwritten law and uses previous cases which have been made by judges. It is widespread in English speaking countries like Great Britain, United States, Canada and others. Common law system is based on cases rather than written principles and decisions made by judges not by parliament or another organization. People have different ideas about Common law system. For example, Charles John Darling said "The Law of England is a very strange one; it cannot compel anyone to tell the truth...But what the Law can do is to give you seven years for not telling the truth".
Civil law is written codes and all rules and regulation are written. Civil law system is used in many countries like France, Germany, Italy and others. However, each country has various codes.
