Understanding Differences Worksheet

Research a culture from a country that is different than your own.  

Complete the table below for the culture you chose.  Include 50 to 150 words for each response.

Cultural View of the Topic

Raising children

Education is free for eleven  years plus collective preschool.  Factories and farms have nursery schools where children are introduced to socialization.  Higher education is an honor its not open to the public and its more of privilege or the “gifted” based on family background.  So chidren are put to work as soon as they are able to go to school.

Role of genders

Woman are not equal to men, they have really no say endless they are higher up or come from money.  Woman do must of the house work and children rearing even while working as many hours as a man would outside the house.  Men run the heavy industry and woman in the light industry.

Marriage

Woman get married at the agr 17 years or older.  North Korea ladies would like to marry a man that has guraduated from college and they have to be a soldier.  They are giving a house or an apartment when they get married.  Also the man gives a gold ring and a gold necklace.  Also to go to a wedding you have to eat cold noodles.

Aging

Koreans respect there elderly, 60th and 70th birthday are prominent life events, which commemorated large scale family , also there are lots of parties and feasts. Roles are reverse once parents reach that age, and its unadult child’s duty to care for their parents.  Also it’s a high honorable one when you care for your parents.

Violence

There is very little violence in North Korea.  The biggest thing is men dominating woman, which is sexual violence is the most commen but it is very seldom reported.  Also there is a lot of female human trafficking and that’s when woman try to get out of North Korea.  The most a person can get is 5 years in correctional labor penadty and that’s for sexual violence on under age woman and on a woman too, also for beating a woman while drunk.

Drug use

It is very common to see drug use its wapped daily almost as natural as if there were cigarettes.  Womansell their body for drugs and they still do drugs while they are pregnant with child.  Drug are though or as relaxing substance or to get the pain to go away or to help forget burdens of reality. Its no sin to use drug in North Korea.

Suicide

There is a very high rate of suicide in North Korea.  People kill them selfs over family members dying or a government person or higher.  The most common way people kill them selfs is by poisoing and hanging .  Because of so many suicides there they have came up with (stops) “strategies to prevent suicide.”

Authority

The ruling worker’s part of Korea has the lasgest decision making power. North Korea’s government is kindy like the USA government just more rules.  No one can change their address or where they live with out applying for it, also they have to be approve for family holidays or going out of town.  Only military and government official can own a motor car.

Beauty

Woman in North Korea have what they call a natural beauty , they don’t wear make-up.  The only time they dress up is during celebrations and other special occasions, and then they only wear tradiltional colorful outfits.  Beauty is diversity, theirs is no matter of cosmetics, money, race or social status, just being your self.
