Discuss the operation of an urban dynamic in a large city of the developed world

Urban dynamics refer to the processes responsible for changing the morphology or urban places, such as Sydney. Sydneys multicultural nature, advanced infrastructure, state of the art technologies, and architectural ingenuity not only make for a highly desired international tourist destination but are all compelling evidence to suggest that Sydney is in fact an established city of the developed world. As in any developed city there are a number of urban dynamic changed that have and will continue to evolve the morphology of the Australian metropolis.

Suburbanisation has been clearly seen in operation in the developed city of Sydney. Suburbanisation is the movement of people, employment and facilities away from the inner city towards outer urban areas. Suburbanisation in Australian cities largely commenced with the introduction of trams and the development of the rail network- suburban railway era. These were the dominant influence on the form of cities from the 1860s- 1920. It led to the development of residential corridors along the railway lines. As transport became more readily available and cheaper, more Australians were able to purchase their own detatched house on its own bloxk of land along with privacy, exclusion and secuirity. eg Richmond/Penrith line. People now lived along the railway lines and not just in the city centre as they could now easily get to work and not live in the city centre.

Some reasons as to why suburbanization in Sydney has occurred are listed below

Push factors (away from the CITY CENTRE)

- deteriorating infrastructure

- aging housing stock

- congestion

- pollution
