Cinema Case

Introduction to Cinema, a very interesting class that has changed the way I watch movies forever. So much of this class was beyond my thinking; I never would have put so much thought into a movie. The visual aspect of cinema is very complex; never would I think that the position of the camera and the location of a character would make a difference. Sound is also a large element that I never really noticed before, I always knew it was there but never noticed when it was relevant. I learned that there are differences between novels, plays and movies that make them equally good.
Anytime I watch a film or look at a photo I automatically notice the lighting, position of objects and people. I saw Shutter Island the other weekend and couldn’t get the music out of my head, and the position of the characters and how they interacted with each other. I never read so much into a movie like I did this one. This is all due to this class. The film was about a federal marshal that was investigating a disappearance in this highly unauthorized institution. The sound really brought it together for me. The beginning had creepy mysterious music and it also had it at the end of the movie. This tied it all together. The ending was quite a surprise and the director made the right move by using the same music when the plot was revealed.
The part of the course that probably distracted me the most was Citizen Kane. I had a hard time with the movie. It was very slow to me. It was very hard to focus and pay attention to the movie. Obviously, this stuttered my ability in chat for the movie. I even tried watching it twice. The other distracting parts for me were truly understanding the visual elements for the paper on it. I felt like I had the understanding from chats and the book, but I was sorely mistaken. I love the super hero movies and so I thought chose one of these films it would be easier for me. I still don’t know if that was the correct choice for me or not as I didn’t try another film to write the paper on. I was extremely close though.
