"Nuovo Cinema Paradiso"
At first, I wasn't sure of what the story is all about. I thought it's about bad or wrong or unusual things. Because at the beginning of the movie I just notice about the teacher who violently punishes her students for giving wrong answers, the children who smokes and an adult who doesn't know to read. But in a good way, I saw in the movie, during the old times, their manner of giving respect to a man who passed away even though it's not their relative. Also the students especially the boys, kisses each other on the cheeks for their goodbyes. But these are not, kind of, significant in the movie.
The real story here is how Alfredo affects Toto's life. Under the fatherly influence of Alfredo, Toto fell in love with film making, with the two spending many hours discussing about films and Alfredo thoroughly teaching Salvatore the skills, became a stepping stone for the young boy into the world of film making. Toto grew into a man and the time came when he need to choose between who he love and what he love being there for him, Alfredo seems to interrupt to Toto's decision. It looks like Alfredo wanted to destroy what's going on between Toto and Elena but deep inside Alfredo wanted to give what he deserves. Since Toto was still a boy, Alfredo can already see his passion for films.
In real life situation I'd rather choose first what I love because I'll settle all things first to have a good future for who I love. If I choose first who I love and with nothing, It might not be good living in a misery with your love. Even though you'll say will live with him/her no matter what, the truth will gain the victory. And it's a shame for you to bring who you love to burden.
