Dancing at Lughnasa

Based on my opinion, the most effective things throughout the performance will be the lights. In some scenes even though the lights were dimmed but the act of other characters in the background scenes were still visible while not distracting the main scenes.

There was a scene when Aggie and Rose were playing a mini game with the woolen and this scene is memorable to me. When I was around ten years old I used to play the same game with my cousins therefore although this is not the main scene but I like this scene the most.

When I entered the theater room, I was attracted by the setting of this performance. I think is nice to leave the rooftop empty but showing the structure of their cottage, this also make the job for stage lighting easier to manage.

I am giving a great applause for the little details in the performance such as water in the tea cup and flour in the mixed bowl also the lights in the wireless radio “Marconi” to shows it’s functioning. All these little details make the whole performance more realistic.

Furthermore, I like the combination of material for the floors in their little cottage and the five sisters’ shoes. Every steps of the five sisters with heels on the floor, the sound of them stepping on the floor is like a tempo which is drawing my full attention.

The background music being played in “Marconi” at the beginning when Michael was talking were bothering me. I felt hard to concentrate on Michael’s introduction of the other characters when the music where playing.

Moreover, at some point when Chris is cleaning the silverware in the background scene, she made a loud sound putting the cleaned silverware on the table. I was listening to the other characters and out of sudden I was distracted by her.

Also, when Maggie was mixing the flour then she started to recall her old days with Bernie, she speaks is a relatively flat. Her lines were quite long and with this tone I am slightly bored till they turned on “Marconi” and started to dance and sing.
