Sunset Boulevard (Performance analysis)
The scene started with Joe rushing into the mansion. Joe's legs movements were fast as if he was really about Norma and impatient that he wanted to see her right away. His head turned away from Max after knowing she was at her room. This also shows the part where he was too worried and impatient to see her. On the other hand, Max was squinting his eyebrows showing dissatisfaction of Joe. Max eyes looked down beneath of Joe showing he was having doubts on Joe. After warned by Max not to race upstairs, Joe's body and legs movements became slower than before as he was too aware of the situation. His eyes were locked onto Norma's room as he was focused on being there for her. There was one moment where he looked back down on his steps on the stairs and looked back up again to Norma's room. This action tells me not only he was focused on Norma but he was paying attention to Max's advice. As he got upstairs, his eyebrows were brought together since he was worried for Norma with his eyes locked on. His movements slowed down more as he realized he was entering to Norma's room with his guilt.
As Joe arrived to Norma's room, his eyebrows were still brought together all the way to when he arrived to Norma's bed. His right hand gripped onto the bottom piece of the bed as he was worried, feeling guilt and sad. His eyes looked down as Norma refused his help since he was depressed for feeling rejected by her but also feeling dissatisfied by himself. Then his left hand strongly threw her shoe onto the couch. This shows that he was getting frustrated. He then put both of his hand into the pockets to show he was getting defensive. His worried eyebrows that were brought together fades away and turned to normal as he started questioning. It was abit lowered down as he was angry.
When we go to Norma, her eyes closed as she was still feeling pain. She covered her eyes with her left injured arm as she didnt want to see Joe. She started to slowly clenched her fists as she was reminded of a another woman Joe was seeing and letting Joe go. This shows she was hurting deep inside feeling a lot of misery of losing someone she loved.
Joe eyes looked down again feeling guilt and sad for Norma. As Joe closed in onto Norma trying to comfort her, Norma's head started to shake as she felt Joe's care for her making her more difficult to let go of Joe. Her head then turned away from Joe trying to distance her away from him and ignore him. And her other hand gripped for the pillow as she was feeling more pain inside her heart. Then again her hands joined together which shows she couldnt help it no more.
Joe eyes and head turned away from Norma disappointed that he couldnt cheer her up. He sat down forcefully, his eyebrows lowered down and his hand joined together tightly. These movements tell me that he was angry he couldnt get Norma to be herself again and was trying to think of a better way to cheer her up. At the same time, I could feel some part of anger within him that was angry because Norma selfishly refused his requests. His head then slowly turned to the source of the New Year's music as he was drawn to the song. He also blinked his eyes in interest. Motivated, his eyes and head turned back to Norma as he decided to go further to make Norma happy again as it was New Year. When Joe went closer to sit beside of Norma, his legs movements were slow as he was calmed. His hands affectionately held Norma's hand and removed them gently away from her face. This movement showed he decided to go for an intimate forceful move on Norma and brought up a romantic mood. Norma was satisfied by Joe's actions and her head turned back face to face towards Joe and her eyebrows were brought together as she was touched by him romantically. Her eyebrows raised for a moment as she tried to catch a breath but were then lowered with her eyes narrowed as she went in for a kiss.
