The ‘bondages’ of today society
The word “bondage” is, I wouldn’t doubt, the most googled word since 14th of February this year. Since that date, actually even earlier for some people, a connection in their brain was created so every time they hear that word they immediately link it to “Fifty shades of Grey” and vice versa. Personally I haven’t watched the movie or read the books and I do believe, rather I hope, that there is a deeper meaning to them which goes beyond the idea that sadomasochistic sex is normal and should be practiced by the majority of people, otherwise they would be labeled as “dull” or “losers”. Even so, there is nothing wrong. I mean we live in a democratic society where you are free to do whatever and I think as long as you don’t go in the way and personal space of someone else, you should do so. And since this kind of freedom exists I don’t think I would get in anyone’s way if I write my opinion.
I never wanted to be one of those guys who write a sort of a review, maybe hateful one as well, knowing that it wouldn’t be read by anyone. This article was triggered by an interesting discovery in amazon’s top deals which was a 30% reduction in a product named “Fifty Shades of Grey Twitchy Palm Paddle” along with other products which apparently were featured in the movie- all sorts of whips appeared that seemed like the punishing tool of the monk in “The Da Vinci’s Code”, police accessories etc.. The more I scrolled down the site, the more it looked like refugee “Torturing Kit for Beginners”. I had a sick feeling in my stomach, which I guess was an accumulation of a whole week of teenagers posting in Facebook kinky things that because of their age they shouldn’t really understand but worryingly enough they do, perhaps even more than some adults. Which as I said earlier they are more than free to do.
There is an obvious trend between the increasing number of movies and books like the novel of Erika Mitchell (I bet more than 50% of the “fans” don’t even know her name) and the increased number of divorces around the world. I haven’t checked data but I am willing to bet that in countries where they (these books and movies) are forbidden, or less popular at least, the number of married people is flourishing as well as the birth rate. Why is that? Having an excess of everything in the modern world, people, I would say the young people under and around 18 more specifically, don’t know what is to repair things that don’t seem to work but instead they throw them in the bin and buy new ones.
