Philosophy of Education

When entering the field of teaching there are many different aspects that must be considered. What do I see as my role in the classroom, what type of classroom management tools will I use, and how do I avoid the dreaded teacher burnout that so many new teachers face? This is an overview of my main views on what I think being a teacher is all about, how I plan to be an effective teacher, and what I plan to accomplish.

Purpose of education: I believe that the purpose of education is to better you mentally, and to become a ‘somebody’. Where would we be in life if no one ever had an education? We would have no doctors, no schools, no lawyers; we would, as a society fall apart. It is our education that sets us apart from people of the past, it is what helps us move forward and live in a civilized manner. Education to me is the root of everything, without it we are no more than animals roaming the planet.

Role of the Student: The role of the student in today’s classroom is to soak up knowledge to the best of his ability. The student should engage in the learning process, ask questions and seek out answers. The student should be able to pull on personal experiences and prior knowledge, and bring that to the table as new information is given to them. The role of the student is to believe that they can master anything that they put their mind to, and to believe that they are never too old or not smart enough to learn. The student needs to be able to work well with other peers and collaborate on ideas and projects. The students also need to learn how to problem solve and come up with strategies that help them in their struggles.

The role of the teacher: The role of the teacher is to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to learn. Since not all of our students learn the same way, it is the job of the teacher to plan instruction so that all students can learn in the way that is conducive to them. A teacher is not just a person that teaches a lesson; a teacher is also a role model to students. Many students do not have a positive role model at home, so it is the role of the teacher to step in and be that positive role model for that child. A teacher needs to be there for her students, and care about each and every child that enters that room. A teacher must provide a nurturing and caring environment for her students to promote the learning experience. The role of the teacher is to provide specific rules and procedures that will help in classroom management so that students may learn most effectively. A specific example of classroom management that I would use in a classroom is a set of very basic rules

• Keep your hands and feet to yourself

• Inside voices in the classroom

• Always do your very best

Keeping the rules to
