I define critical thinking as the ability to think rationally. It is a process of being able to understand and ideas. It involves reasoning and the ability to create and evaluate arguments. Someone who is thinking critically is able to reflect. It is almost like thinking about thinking (so to speak). It helps us gain knowledge and improves and strengthens our arguments. Critical thinking is important because it is a skill that can be applied to any situation. Having the ability to think well is as vital as any other skill in your career or field of study. I believe it enhances your verbal, presentation, and communication skills because you can think clearly and better express your point of view. Critical thinking has definitely helped me in the workplace.
As indicated in my biography, I am currently an Administrative Assistant for my local hospital. I manage time cards for half the nursing population, submit and pay bills to the finance department. I meet with senior leaders, travel agency representatives, and vendors to discuss the many services that are being reciprocated back and forth. I also provide training to colleagues on necessary software that are being utilized within the organization. By performing these trainings I am able to verbalize my ideas in ways that my audience could relate to, understand, and apply to their daily routine.
In this course I hope to increase my knowledge in critical thinking so it could better be applied to my career, education, and overall life. Decision-making is an asset that is very essential to the critical thinking process and I hope to learn all there is about it in order to make it effective in my everyday life.
