Threats Case

I want to start by saying you should always take threats seriously; it should never be taken as a joke. There have been so many cases similar to the Tarasoff Case. There have been cases where it was not taken seriously by the victim, the psychopath’s doctor and even the police. I strongly disagree with the way the case was handled. Tatiana and her family should have been warned to take precaution and Doctor Moore should not have been overridden by his superior who I am assuming did not have therapy sessions with Prosenjit. The director should have trusted Dr. Moore’s judgement as he was exemplifying beneficence for the good of another. If the director had trusted Dr. Moore’s judgment, Tatiana’s life would have been saved. There is also some blame on Dr. Moore’s behalf because he did not take all possible precautions but maybe he was trying to partially respect the confidentiality of Prosenjit.
Suppose this had been a case like the Sandy Hook Shooting?; suppose Adam Lanza spoke to a doctor and told him he planned to kill all of those beautiful children and wonderful teachers and his doctor had tried to have him locked away to prevent harm and his doctor’s superior over rid his judgment. Do you think Adam Lanza’s confidentiality was more important than the lives of the twenty six people he killed? No! I know you may be thinking what about the point Justin Clark made, well what would be the good of a client’s confidentiality if they plan on harming themselves? I believe the patient’s life would be more important than their confidentiality because confidentiality will mean nothing once they’re dead. I also believe the whole point of psychotherapy is to prevent the harm of the patient and others the patient may want to cause harm to.
If a doctor were to keep the threats confidential we would be looking at many more shootings as we have been anyways in America. If doctors were confidential and the client felt comfortable telling them
