• Children who are in daycare receive more interaction with children around their age

• Daycare staff usually trained in early childhood education/ preparation for school life

• Exposure to other children contributes to children's development

• Better language and cognitive skills are acquired as child grows up (Chilman, 1993)

Speaker Notes: As a parent the decision of having a child can be difficult when it comes to providing child care. Parents are often torn between the advantages and disadvantages of sending the child to a daycare facility or having the child stay at home. The benefits of a child being in daycare are that the child is able to interact with other children around their age and other adults that can benefit their social skills as they grow up. A good daycare center often requires for the staff to be certified and trained in early childhood development. It is also required that facilities be certified by the state.
