Ethics and Social Responsibility
There is a locally business not far from where I live and this place has been around for a really long time considering all the economic issues that we have had in today’s society. I actually am a former employee from there and that business is called Masonite. I was an assistant production manager. I would help the production manager in making sure that were would get out daily productions in every department. If one department would do too much over production then the manager has to make decisions to send cut hours back or layoff people. Now if a department didn’t run enough for production I help the manager find a way to speed the process up in order to make production. It is one of the world’s leading manufactures for all types of doors. This company builds interior doors for mobile homes, houses, restaurants, hotels, and office’s. They have been making doors for over 80 years. The plant where I worked was in Haleyville, Alabama.
During the first year with Masonite I felt like I had a very productive year. I had gotten a promotion and a raise. I was learning new things like how to place orders online to some of our vendors. That was a big deal especially for someone with my job title. It wasn’t until the second year there were a lot of things that I seen that just didn’t add up. When I would get all the numbers in from every department there would always be one department that would run over production. That would be the finishing department and there is where a door was completed. I didn’t think anything of it. I was supposed to take whatever they ran over production and put it in the stock department for when we needed extra doors. I would always give my reports to the production manager at the end of every week and I always had to keep record of it in my files as well. After a few months there were a couple of times I would do my monthly statement and my numbers always had seemed to be off. Not by a lot but for me it was plenty enough to get my attention really quick. I was really worried for my job at that time. So what I started doing was instead of a weekly report I would do a daily report because if my numbers were off the day before then it was a lot easier to go to the stock department and manually count that days production if I needed to. It was really, really tough to go back and check after a weekly report. I never would get an accurate count. I would always have to go back and count and wouldn’t you know I was dead on with my reports. There were doors missing every week. I would always tell the production manager about it and he would always tell me I was doing a great job and he would take care of it. This continued for several more months and still the same result every single week.
