Background
Mary's a growing young lady in the world who has goals and ambitions to complete college and work in the corporate world as a president of an accountant firm. She has wonderful friends and family members that support her goals. Mary would always keep her appearance up. Her free time is spent at her grandparents' house helping them around the farm. Her weekends consist of her bowling, watching the latest movies, white water rafting, or traveling the country with friends.
Mary was first diagnosed as schizophrenic at age seventeen. Mary's doctor visit consist of various medical testing that later showed over activity in the neural circuits releasing dopamine and enlarged brain ventricles which are all associated with schizophrenia (Egan & Hyde, 2000). Schizophrenia happens to be suffered by one percent of the population (Jablensky, 1999). She became distant with her family and friends and made delusional comments. She's been in and out of various types of psychiatric facilities. While in the facilities she's been involved in fights with other patients and staff members of the facility. She has never been able to hold a steady job for any length of time or even hold a logical conversation. During sever flare ups of her disorder, her sleeping hours decrease, her personal hygiene deteriorate. She rarely washes, wears clothes that neither fit nor match, smears makeup on heavily, and slops food all over herself. She tends to be aggressive and emotionally volatile. Mary occasionally hears voices talking to her.
She tends to have irrational thoughts as:
"Justin Bieber wants to marry me and wants me to have his twin sons. I want to form a rap group with three men and three women but Justin wants me to be his manager. Some people want to steal my ideas out of my brain and take over the music industry. I will call you from a pay phone because they're trying to listen to my conversations. I'm going to travel cross country on a horse with a filming crew that wants to document my life. When the street lights come on the signal tells me to I'm no smart. I'm the Queen of England and a robot prepares my food. Bill Cosby calls me and wants me to play his daughter in his show. Mary Poppins is my twin sister we both sing in a family group. "
Symptoms
The symptoms of disorganized speech, hallucinations, delusions, and deterioration of adaptive behavior are commonly seen in people like Mary who suffers from schizophrenia. Mary's clearly shows that the schizophrenia disorder can be severely bizarre and crippling. (Black, 1999)
Irrational thinking is present with her as delusions that are false beliefs that are clearly out of touch with reality. Some people believe their private thoughts are being broad casted to other people, thoughts are being injected
