My Journey

Educational success is one that mostly everyone dreams of accomplishing. Even though the educational journey is long, rough, and rugged, the pay off in the end seems to be well worth the stress and long nights. In this essay, I will discuss the experiences encountered through family support and the perseverance I had to endure to make my educational dreams come true, analyze how these experiences are evident in my adulthood, and why they have an impact within my online learning environment. I also will interpret the influence Bronfenbrenner’s rings, microsystem and mesosystem (Mossler, 2013) had on my development. The significant impacts my family, mainly my Grandmother, and myself had throughout my upbringing, are the main two I chose to discuss in this essay.

Being the only child and the only grandchild, I depended a lot on family for things. My Grandmother was/is my driving force and she pushes me to limits that I never thought I would be able to accomplish. To this day, the significance and importance of all her life-teaching lessons reigns supreme. I’m very grateful, blessed, and joyful that I have her in my life. If it wasn’t for her, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today. With all of her life teachings, I was able to accomplish a lot in life. She made me feel that I could do anything I wanted as long as I put my mind to it and that nothing should ever stop me from reaching my goals. This event isn’t necessary one in the past, simply because she is still here today and she’s still an important factor in my life. So how I feel about this twenty-five year and counting experience is simply overjoyed and very thankful.

My family was by far the most supportive and the best at doing it. Urie Bronfenbrenner prosed a theory, in which it can best explain development in terms of the interaction between individuals and the environments where they live (Bronfenbrenner, 2004). The two ecological systems that I chose to elaborate on are microsystem and mesosystem. An everyday experience of the environmental influence of “family, friends, and school” is explained and elaborated on by Bronfenbrenner’s microsystem (Mossler, 2013). Having my family push and support me on a daily basis, was and is an important factor when it comes to my educational goals, especially with me being the only child and only grandchild. I have to depend on them for that extra motivation or that extra kick in order for me to succeed.
