Introduction
The organization that I will use in order to complete my course project is New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, or NSMBC, is a church first and far most. But it is also a non-profit organization that serves its members and the community throughout the entire year. NSMBC was established in 1909 and it offers a range of prayer and community support services. New Salem was the 10th black Baptist church in Columbus, Ohio. They began on a store front at the intersections of Spruce and City Avenues and in 1960, the Church moved to 487 North Champion Avenue in a building with only a lower auditorium. By 1966, the mortgage had been paid, and the upper story of the building had been completed. My pastor, Dr. Keith A. Troy, was called to pastor New Salem in October of 1983 and in April of 1988, New Salem moved to its new and current location, 2956 Cleveland Avenue.
New Salem Missionary Baptist Church is not only my church home, but it is also my place of employment and it has grown tremendously over the years. God has blessed New Salem with growth in membership from 400 to 5,000 individuals. Because New Salem is such a large church, we have to have a larger staff than most churches and several volunteers as well. Our Staff consist of all of the department leaders and their assistants, pastor and his assistant, the COO and his assistant, the head of administration and her assistant, a bookkeeper, two front desk receptionists, and everyone who works in environmental services. New Salem’s different departments consist of the following areas: pastoral office, administration (financial and operations), community of caring, hospitality, magnification (music, worship arts, and prayer ministries), maturity (spiritual growth), membership, ministry, missions, promiseland (children’s ministries), and life development (youth ministries).
I am the administrative assistant for the magnification department and my job duties include posting music on the website for the different choir’s to view and listen to, running different kinds of reports through
