In the article Obesity it tells us about the obesity epidemic which is more than one third of us adults. That’s about seventy two million people. Obesity can cause many health problems. For example, it can cause heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, cancer, infertility, osteoarthritis, liver and gallbladder disease, type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. When people have these many health problems it can be costly which is why the medical costs associated with obesity were estimated to be as high as $147 billion. This article also tells us about CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and how they team up with other organizations to prevent obesity and help to bring obesity down to a lower percentage. Some of their partners are Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and U.S department of agriculture.
This article doesn’t tell us what percentage of people it has already helped combat obesity it only tells us that the programs have helped some people. This article doesn’t give us specific example on how to fight the obesity problem we many Americans are facing it only tells us the dos. The article doesn’t give us the definition of obesity. Obesity is the weight that is higher than what is considered as a healthy weight for given height. Another thing that the article doesn’t tell us is how obesity is measured which is by BMI (Body Mass Index).
This article should inform us what the causes of obesity are. They should let us know that genetics play a big role in obesity. It is now well known that overweight and the different forms of obesity are conditions tending to come from within a family. It should inform us on ways to keep our children from being overweight.
In conclusion, obesity is a disease that affects many people in the U.S including children. There are programs that are trying to put a stop to obesity by bringing the percentage down. These programs are in schools, hospitals, and the children communities. This helps because when you send your children to school you won’t have to worry about the school menu being too high in calories. By bringing the obesity down you also help bring down your medical bills because people who were obese had medical costs that were $1,429 higher than the cost for people of normal body weight. Remember that if you’re family has a lot of overweight people I it than you might want to change your eating habits because sometimes obesity can come from your genes.
