Part One

Complete this timeline by including at least 10 events that have played a role in the evolution of crisis intervention services. Include a 50- to 75-word description of each event.

Crisis interventions at the time of event

The Crises hot line was created in 1906

Studies were conducted on suicide in which defined the symptoms of suicide. This hotline provides guidance for individual who have an emotionally disability.

Hotline provides services at any time of the day for individuals in need and dedicated studies were being conducted. It provided a quick help on the phone.

Vietnam Veterans 1970 are at War

Veterans were in a battle with the government. They were looking for the government to define PTSD as a mental disease and asked to receive financial support for it.

Financial support provided to the veterans gave them a center to receive treatment for PTDS and research opportunity.

1942 there was a night club fire at the Coconut Grove

A large fire broke out in the club killing 492 individuals and left over 500 survivors with acute grief’s and traumatic loss. The traumatic loss led to studies conducted in the grief process.

The fire provided opportunity to conduct research on acute grief’s and traumatic loss and define the meaning of crisis.

1963 Mental Health Care Act was formed

Mental health care act was signed which closed down asylums ran by the States. Clients knew asylums for horrible mental treatment techniques.

The act provided patients with rights and treatment that was best suitable for them. Basically gave them rights they didn’t have before.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving

A terrible event in which led a 13-year girl to be killed by a drunk driver. A mother of the 13 year old girl who was killed by the drunk drive pledge on her deceased daughter to help stop people from driving drunk. So this led to the program to be held.

The deceases mother named MADD built the organization. The organization received funds of $100,000 from the Farmers insurance company, which helped the organization grow and start new chapters to their organization.

1970 women’s movement

Led to one of the most important movement for Feminism. This focused on the denial for better jobs, salary and discrimination in the workplace. By the end of the 1970 the activates of the women movement faded out but on the road they founded rape crises center, shelter for women’s, and health clinics all for women in need.

Through this movement a new organization was launched called National Organization for Women. This organization was created to fight the discrimination against women rights. The movement also helped women get recognition in there accomplishments.

Alcoholics Anonymous

This event took place in the 1930’s. This movement of AA was started by Bill Wilson. Bill had destroyed his career in wall street, marriage, and failed to complete his law school due to alcohol. He sought help, which there wasn’t at the time. So he decided to make one for his fellow Alcoholics.

With the help of Oxford group and Bob Smith, Bill Wilson and Bob Smith took their message of recovery. They made a 12-step program on the road to rescue people from alcoholism and abuse, which came along due to alcohol.

Iraq 2001-2005

Veterans PTSD

This event touched basis on Vietnam Veterans of PTSD but was studied more with Iraq Vets. New forms of PTSD were found in soldiers coming back from Iraq. They based it on potential PTSD, minimal PTSD, to extreme PTSD.

With the help of the president more programs were formed in the VA system. Soldiers were getting treated and tested right off the plane coming back from a combat zone.

Homeland Security warning colors

After September 11, 2001 Homeland Security bumped up their security forces. They not only provided a better system but they provided it to the citizens of the United States. The newscasters can now provide viewers the high or low alerts of possible attacks.

With more funding provided by Congress Homeland Security was able to provide more possible attacks to the citizens of the US from a radio and televised event.

National Terrorism System

With the new phase in the global threat environment, which has implications on the homeland.  Particularly with the rise in use by terrorist groups of the Internet to inspire and recruit, the National Terrorism System created new measures of security. This forced us to give up our rights on phone tapping and other measures to invade our privacy.

The system provides the government with the use of phone tapping and use of other techniques in order to get any possible terrorist attacks. The use of looking online to see what one is seeing is also included. Many citizens were outraged of this but the government thought it was necessary to keep our country safe.
