Conclusion
The SOS response is a post replication DNA repair system that will allow DNA replication to find a way around lesions or miscalculations in the DNA. The SOS uses the RecA protein. This protein is stimulated by single-stranded DNA and is involved in the inactivation of the LexA repressor thus inducing the response. It is an error prone repair system.
Stimulation and competence are the key essentials of this study as it contributes to why it is important to understand the genetic mutations of S. pneumoniae. We learned that competence is one of the most known characteristics of Streptococcus pneumoniae. DNA uptake, processing and integration is all known factors in understanding the competence.
We understood this illness because of the way this report presented itself and we took in the study to learn about the mechanisms behind it. Combing all the efforts of the reasoning behind how antibiotics work, (in our case, mitomycin C) and how it stimulates the regulatory cascade in the DNA of the organism.
The very reasons for studies like this allow for the building of new vaccines against Streptococcus pneumoniae. The better we understand Streptococcus pneumoniae and how issues such as these arise; we can better prevent ourselves from being at risk. Researching contributes to the overall learning as we will continue to divulge into more critical thinking terms without over analyzing and also by not researching in the wrong areas.
Antibiotic resistance is a very important issue that could get the best of us if we do not work one step ahead and make known the threats and concerns that these researches find. If that was the case, medicine on a daily basis would become obsolete and we would be rushing to find cures without taking the time to conduct a proper hypothesis with appropriate tests just as this report has done.
