Compare and Contrast Science & Belief

Science and religion is a never ending discussion when it comes in comparison between the two topics.  Science and religion both have their own points to prove without having relevance to the points being stated by the people who support and agree upon them(Rayn, 2011).  The aspects of science have an even more important role in religion and the objective features are less visible in religion.  Science and religion have a never ending search for a greater knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of the universe (Rayn, 2011).

Religion has emphasized the idea that seeker and scholars must acquire wisdom, understanding and knowledge of self, the earth, the universe in order to familiarize themselves with the Spirit and become closer to the Spirit (Rayn, 2011).  The way religion in the sense of belief is considered consciousness.  Science has some similarities to religion when it comes to emphasizing the idea that researchers and scholars must identify, understand and combine all forms of wisdom throughout the universe, which is a way to become closer and more familiarized with the nature that surrounds us (Rayn, 2011).  The aspect of understanding and having any sort of knowledge and wisdom with the universe is called reality.  The way that one can gain better knowledge in the nature that surrounds us is the use of books, symbolism, hypothesis, and ideas.  Science and religion show a clear visual that both topics operate independently from each other.

When it come to comparing science and religion, many people seem to have a different outlook upon these two topics and believe that science and religion do not have similar goals.  People believe that the two topics areas of focus are mutually exclusive (Rayn, 2011).  The reason for this is that science and religion are two different forms of understanding reality (Rayn, 2011).  Religion deals with the concepts of Universal Creator, the soul, spirit and everlasting life and afterlife.   Neuro-scientists believe that the idea of the soul is a myth (Rayn, 2011).  Science does not deal merely in the material world.  By having such belief contradicts the most important elements of science which are hypothesis and theory.

Importance of Peer-Review

Peer-review is stated as being a critical part of the scientific community and how they function as a community.  Peer-review is about creating quality, control, and the self corrective nature of science (Novella, 2008).  The reason peer-review is that it is a process used prior to publication which is a quality control filter.  When a paper is submitted the reviewers give in detail, criticism of the paper, and a recommendation to reject, accept with major revisions, accept with minor revisions, or accept as is.  One thing that is very rare is an acceptation of a paper during the first round (Novella, 2008). The editor also reviews that paper and adds their own comments.  The reason for peer-review is important because it not only checks the quality of work submitted, but improves the quality of the paper.  It is a way for the reviewer to point out certain topics that might have been missed or not commented on in the paper, and errors that can be fixed.
