Nowadays informatization encompasses the ever-broadening sphere of human activity. The growth of digital information goes far ahead of growth of information on paper. Medical data has its own specifics and its volume increase is accompanied by certain problems which justify the need to create medical information systems (MIS).
Very often physicians in their decision making have to withstand such professional challenges as lack of available information, lack of time, lack of competent experts, incomplete information about the patient's condition. These negative factors can be the causes of medical errors that may lead to further loss of patient’s health. Therefore, along with the development of MIS it is an important task to create medical decision support systems (DSS), which are information systems that operate autonomously or as part of the MIS .
The decision support system allows specialists to use the data which helps the manager in decision-making as well as in providing support of a decision taking by the manager. Overriding objective of these DSS is to find the most efficient options for the development of medical enterprise taking into account the influence of various factors such as changes in legislation, seasonal outbreaks, disease type prevalence, quantity of operations, medical staff workloads, etc.
DSS in medical information systems are used to help managers and executives in making decisions based on analysis of a large amount of statistic information. For example, assistance with work schedules, identifying promising ways of enterprise development or warning about a possible shortage of medical specialists in connection with growing patients flow or seasonal outbreaks.
In the XXI century the feasibility of MIS in hospitals is determined by the properties of the system, providing support to the medical staff decision-making in on-line mode. The need of such a support is due to a very rapid growth of knowledge in the medical field. Application of MIS to assist physicians in the treatment and diagnosis using new knowledge and technology is perhaps the only solution of this important social issue.
Modern decision support system (DSS) emerged as a natural continuation and development of management information systems and database management systems which are maximally adapted to the challenges of everyday management activities are a tool designed to assist decision makers (DMP). With the help of the DSS can be addressed unstructured and semi-structured multi-criteria problems.
DSS usually are the result of multidisciplinary research, including theories on database, artificial intelligence, interactive computer systems, and simulation methods.
Decision Support System or DSS is a computer system that by collecting and analyzing of large data amounts can influence the decision-making process in a given area. Interactive systems enable managers to get useful information from primary
