Eating Disorders Paper
I decided to write my paper about NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) and found a very interesting and informative video called “Our Video Story” that can be found at http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/informationresources/audiovideo.php#Our_Video_Story. Right from the beginning, I learned that more people die every year from a eating disorder than any other mental illness. I also learned that nearly 11 million people suffer from Anorexia or Bulimia, and millions more from binge eating disorder. When I first discovered this, it was very hard to believe. But as I researched further, I realized just how true it really was.
I’ve never heard of NEDA until now, but after watching this video I’ve learned that NEDA seems like a pretty incredible organization. NEDA helps in many ways including insurance needs, information, and personal care for people with eating disorders. NEDA is made possible through public donations and is able to reach millions of people each year. NEDA is also a great organization because of it's incredible influence on communities all around the world. As I was watching the video, the thing that really struck me the most, was how the people that receive help from NEDA seem to be very tight and close nit with each other. Many of those people start off by feeling very desperate and alone, but once they gather together with the help of NEDA, they seem like they have a fresh renewed sense of hope. Over all, in my opinion, NEDA seems like a excellent resource for anyone dealing with a eating disorder.
