Nuclear Energy
The Fukushima accident has raised the world’s concern about the nuclear threat and serious calamity it caused. But in fact the nuclear energy has given a enormous positive influence to our world for almost 60 years with its extraordinary performance. Nuclear has greatly contributed to electricity power for our daily life as well as the large industry. Specifically, this essay will explain why nuclear energy has affected the world at a large extend; how it allayed the shortage of energy, which led to its success; and how it helps to fulfill the huge energy demand of the world.
Nuclear energy is definitely a game changer, since it was a brand new type of energy found, arguably giving a new concept of energy sources. Before the discover of nuclear, energy resources could be distinguished as fossil fuels and renewable energy, which one provides high capacity with serious pollution while another is renewable and sustainable but inefficient. While people were struggling between efficiency and environment, nuclear power could keep balanced of both. Not only is it productive and stable, it also generate less greenhouse gas than fossil fuels(Ramamurthy, 2014). This new choice combined both advantages with a whole new technology. Although it still has other drawbacks, it provided a new category of energy source and broke the limitation of only choosing the other two methods. It is, therefore, clear that nuclear energy is a game changer with a new concept of energy resources.
Facing the condition of exhausted energy resources, nuclear energy was led to its success. Although nuclear was first introduced as a weapon, it has succeeded since it has been used in electricity generation. While population of the whole world were growing rapidly, shortage of energy source became much more serious. The new found power source is different from the traditional fossil fuel. At that time, people were surprised that only very little uranium, the raw material for nuclear energy, could generate such high output power. Furthermore the price was even lower compared to other sources(Tick, Lalchand, & Shing, 2014). The high efficiency and low cost of nuclear energy made this new source well-known. It helps allaying the scarcity problem of energy source, which was a urgent problem of the whole world. The success of nuclear energy was mainly attributed to the condition of shortage of energy.
