Over the past year, there have been multiple reports of Salmonella outbreaks with the most recent one involving Bean Sprouts. In 2014, although nobody has died, a total of 115 people had been reportedly affected by the Salmonella Enteritidis strain from 12 different states across the U.S. Out of all reported cases, 25% had been hospitalized and 16 people isolated, which meant anyone entering the patient's room (who may tough the patient or objects in the room) should wear a gown and gloves. According to the investigation, it was concluded that the strain was carried through the bean sprouts produced by a New York company. The cases suggested that the spread of the strain was due to an unclean food handling environment and since then, all remaining products have been destroyed and the company had been ordered to complete a thorough sanitization as well as always adhering to the CDC's written food safety practices. Fortunately, at this time, the Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak appears to have ended.
