Review of using contraception

Contraception, usually known as birth control or fertility control, are methods used to obviate pregnancy. Contraception is actually an intentional prevention of conception or impregnation through the use of various devices, agents, drugs, sexual practices, or surgical procedures. There are many types of ways to reduce the risk of getting pregnant, examples that most people use includes the pills, the male condoms, vasectomy, female sterilization, the coil (Intra-uterine device (IUD)), contraceptive injection, Mirena (Intra-uterine system)), the skin patch, the cap or diaphragm, the female condom and the vagina ring.

According to the article attached, many people did not talk to their partner about contraception. They did not think much as their main purpose is to please their partner and themselves. They also did not think of how to avoid sexually-transmitted disease (STD) or even there's a potential of having it. Among these contraceptive ways, only some can prevent you from sexually-transmitted disease, for example, condom. The withdrawal method and the oral contraceptive pills cannot prevent sexually-transmitted disease, as disease are caused by contact with secretions and skin during sexual intercourse. Therefore, the safest way to prevent sexual-transmitted disease and at the same time preventing pregnancy is by using condoms.

According to consultant obstetrician and gynecologist Dr Lim Lei Jun, male condoms are quite a popular birth control method among the Chinese, while Malays tend to use the withdrawal method. This is because in the Malay Qur'an, it says "You should not kill your children for fear of want" (17:31, 6:151). This scripture does not says that it refer to contraception, but many Muslims that oppose
